BIO
Bill Yates has been photographing since high school, starting with sports car racing at Daytona and Sebring in the early 60's. Following active duty in the United States Naval Air Reserves, Yates graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in Art and Photography and went on to the Rhode Island School of Design to study with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind as well as other master fine art photographers. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from RISD in 1975. Later that year his work was juried into the 1975 Artists' Biennial Exhibition at the New Orleans Museum of Art. From the Biennial, his work was selected to be a part of a traveling exhibition formed by what was then known as the United States Information Agency to be a part of the first cultural exchange to China following President Nixon's historic visit. Yates has had a "one man" show at The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., and has exhibited in museums and galleries as well as group shows throughout the United States. His photographs are represented in numerous corporate and private collections. Yates was curatorial consultant of photography to The Corcoran, and director of the University Gallery of New Mexico State University. Yates has also been involved in design development and construction management for many years. In 2000, Yates combined his expertise in photography with his years of experience in the construction industry to fill a photographic niche for the architectural-engineering-construction field by starting CYPIX. Yates' creativity and the success of CYPIX has allowed him to broaden his photographic scope of work into other areas such as corporate, governmental, legal, environmental, editorial, scenic imagery, and continue his fine art photography.
